HISTORIC FIRST CONTACT? Mysterious signals from space scientists believe ARE from ALIENS

Mysterious signals from space scientists believe ARE from ALIENS : A paper entitled “Discovery of peculiar periodic spectral modulations in a small fraction of solar type stars” published in the journal Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific has concluded signals picked up coming from 234 star systems are “likely to be caused intelligent life rather than something natural”.

Researchers analysed data from 2.5 million stars before finding the 234 anomalies which could not otherwise be explained. Professor Stephen Hawking and his Breakthrough Listen project will now investigate further the signals to sees if they really do come from alien intelligent life forms.

The report said: “We find that the detected signals have exactly the shape of an extraterrestrial intelligence (ETI) signal predicted in the previous publication and are therefore in agreement with this hypothesis.

“The fact that they are only found in a very small fraction of stars within a narrow spectral range centred near the spectral type of the sun is also in agreement with the ETI hypothesis.”

A mathematical tool was used by astronomers to analyse super quick light pulses of about less than a trillionth of a second to reach their conclusion. Other causes they ruled out were instrument effects, rotation of molecules, rapid stellar pulsations and chemistry.

But the report included a disclaimer the tool they used had not really been studied in enough detail to know if it was accurate, and, therefore, the evidence was insufficient to suggest definitive proof of intelligent life.

However, they still concluded it was currently the best explanation. Breakthrough Listen, also backed by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, will now look at the star signals to see what else can be established about them.

The group said in a statement: “The one in 10,000 objects with unusual spectra seen by [the scientists] are certainly worthy of additional study.

“However, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. “It is too early to unequivocally attribute these purported signals to the activities of extraterrestrial civilisations.

“Internationally agreed-upon protocols for searches for evidence of advanced life beyond Earth (SETI) require candidates to be confirmed by independent groups using their own telescopes, and for all natural explanations to be exhausted before invoking extraterrestrial agents as an explanation.

“Careful work must be undertaken to determine false positive rates, to rule out natural and instrumental explanations, and most importantly, to confirm detections using two or more independent telescopes.” Source: express
