The phone could be launched in 2017. In fact, reports suggest that Microsoft could be launching three smartphones from the Microsoft Surface Phone line-up.

It was reported back in January that Microsoft had registered SurfacePhone.com domain name and information about the launch of three new smartphones in 2017 is based out of this domain registration.

The Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 would be Microsoft’s yet another attempt to make a mark in the smartphone segment especially after the failure of the Windows phones. However, this time Microsoft has been able to establish the Surface brand name and is reportedly bringing a host of specs and features in the Surface Phone.

If rumours are to be believed, the basic version of the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 will have a 4GB RAM while the premium variant will sport an 8GB RAM. There is also a possibility that the Surface Phone will have Intel’s Kaby Lake processor, liquid cooling tech, USB port and also 5.5 inch Active-Matrix Organic Light-emitting Diode display.

There have been a lot of speculation regarding the top features the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 will have such as the rumoured 20MP Carl Zeiss primary camera, compass, proximity sensor, barometer and fingerprint scanner.

There have been reports stating that the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 may also have a fingerprint scanner embedded on the display. This is a trend that is fast catching up. As per WCCF Tech, Microsoft is looking to consolidate the Windows 10 platform via the Surface Phone 2017. It is being designed strictly for business, some tech enthusiasts believe.

There is no word on why the launch of the smartphone has been delayed. Many believe that it is due to the Kaby Lake chipset that Microsoft is waiting for. However, there has been no word from Microsoft.

Some rumours suggested that the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 will be able to run both iOS and Android apps on Windows 10 with minimal coding, known as “Bridge Solution.” Source: ibtimes
