Windows Phone Will Get Two-Factor Authentication in WhatsApp

#WindowsPhone #WhatsAppWindows Phone Will Get Two-Factor Authentication in WhatsApp : In a leak that happened today via Spanish website MicrosoftInsider, WhatsApp appears to be working on two-factor authentication for the Windows Phone client, as it’s preparing documentation that should assist users as they’re trying to reset this feature.

Specifically, the leaked email concerns a translation file for WhatsApp from English to Spanish, including references to a number of features that are not available just yet on Windows phones.

One of those references says that “if you did not request this email, do not confirm. Someone may have verified with your phone number and two-factor is protecting your account or someone may have mistakenly added your email address to their account.”

“No target release date just yet”

For the moment, it’s not yet clear when WhatsApp is planning to roll out this feature, but given the fact that documentation is already in the works, it shouldn’t take too long before it becomes available.

Two-factor authentication is a security measure that protects users’ accounts beyond the typical username and password layer, providing alternative authentication systems, such as codes that are delivered to the owner’s mobile phone.

And given the fact that WhatsApp already has phone numbers, this should really come in handy to all users looking for extra protection for their accounts. WhatsApp is one of the companies that are still investing in their Windows Phone apps, and the client that’s currently available for Microsoft users is at least in line with its Android and iOS siblings.

Furthermore, WhatsApp has a beta program advancing nicely on Windows Phone, giving users the possibility of trying out features before they are rolled out publicly, so work on Microsoft’s platform continues, despite all the bad news lately. Source: softpedia
