#Nokia #Smartwatch – Nokia’s ‘Moonraker’ smartwatch shown off in new video : Over two and a half years ago, it was first reported that Nokia was working on something with the codename ‘Moonraker’. Shortly after, Microsoft acquired the company’s devices and services division, and the product would never come to market.
In 2015, we learned more about Moonraker, that it was in fact a smartwatch. Microsoft had killed off the product in favor of its in-house Band product line. Clearly, the decision hasn’t paid off for the company, as it’s recently been confirmed that there will be no successor to the Band 2 anytime soon.
After photos of Moonraker surfaced earlier this year, a hands-on video has now shown up, courtesy of Nokibar:
Clearly, this is a device that will never see the light of day, and we can see that the functionality of Moonraker isn’t quite on par with modern smartwatches. Obviously, it would have been a first generation product and would have gotten better in future iterations.
We’ve spoken with Nokia employees about Moonraker and they all seem to remember it with a certain level of nostalgia. One even described it as “awesome”. Source: Neowin
